October’s mystery plant is a fairly common woodland herb that is found in rich moist woods and grows to 1-2 feet. Its entire, elliptical, leaves form 2 whorled tiers. Greenish-yellow 6-petalled flowers hang from the upper tier from late May into June. Dark purple berries held above the top tier of leaves follow in late summer. The white root is edible, but please try to resist picking this lovely native!
