Our July Mystery Plant is a common woodland herb you have likely encountered in your Rhode Island rambles. It’s foliage is basal, evergreen and distinctively checked with white veins. A leafless wooly stalk ends in a spike of white flowers developing in early summer. The individual flowers are irregular and more or less two-lipped.
