This lovely little plant will be found only in saturated soils along wetlands edges. It has heart-shaped basal leaves on a fleshy stalk. The inflorescence is two parted with green flowers embedded in a yellow spadix emerging from a large white spathe. This wildflower blooms in late spring to summer. Its fruit is a cluster of red berries visible after the leaves have faded away.
