This little herbaceous native can reach 6-18 inches tall and shows up in my lawn during No-Mow-May (also found in fields and meadows). Flat basal leaves emerge from wiry stems and are entire (without teeth), up to 1/8 inch wide and barely winged or not winged at all. The six-parted blue flowers have a yellow eye and bristle tipped petals.

It is…

Botanical Name: Sisyrinchium atlanticum
Common Name: Eastern blue-eyed-grass
Family: Iridaceae (Iris Family)
