April’s mystery plant is an invasive biennial/perennial from Eurasia. While not fussy about soil types, it prefers sunny well-drained meadows and disturbed sites. The plant can reach 4 feet in height with alternate, pinnately divided, and coarsely toothed leaves. The leaves have a long petiole that encircles the stem at the nodes and are yellowish-green in color. The yellow, 5-petaled flowers are small and grow in umbels that are 4” to 8” in diameter. Each fruit contains two seeds.
Warning: contact with the sap of this plant can cause a sensitivity to sunlight and result in a burn-like dermatitis.
