The mystery plant for August is a low-growing perennial with needle-like, dark- green leaves and strikingly beautiful yellow flowers. This plant which is a very small shrub has woody stems and short linear leaves. The flowers have 5 petals and 5 sepals. The leaves are alternately arranged on the stems. This plant stands about 6-10” tall and is covered by yellow flowers when it blooms in late spring and early summer. It grows in sandy, dry soil and is listed as a plant of concern in RI.
