This month’s mystery plant is a perennial (sometimes referred to as a subshrub) with basal leaves and a single erect flowering stem holding a raceme of white 5-petaled flowers. The leaves are thick, obscurely toothed, glossy, dark green and often show prominent veins suffused with white. The fruit is a capsule. It blooms from June to August and grows in rich, dry or moist woods.
