September’s mystery plant is a late-blooming annual with irregular blue flowers. The flowers are unusual due to their coiled filaments. It is these coiled filaments that give the plant its common name. This plant grows to a height of 6” to 18” and has opposite leaves which are lanceolate or oblong in shape and un-toothed margins. This plant can be found growing in dry sandy soil in open sunny areas. This plant blooms from mid-August to October
