What plant is that?
This plant is a biennial with spiny leaves and yellow, or sometimes purple flowers. The flowering stem is from three to four feet tall. The flowers are surrounded by very prickly bracts It grows in sandy soil in open areas along the coast from Maine to Texas. It blooms in June and July. It is listed as State Threatened on the RI Rare Plant list.
