This plant is a perennial. It grows in a variety of habitats from swales to fields and meadows. The showy rose-colored petals are divided into four lobes. The leaves are entire and oppositely arranged on the stem. It is not a native American plant and can become invasive. According to the USDA, it is banned from Connecticut.
