The bright red berries of this shrub bring cheer to the swamps and wetlands of RhodeIsland during the short and often dreary days of autumn. The berries persist into winter and provide food for many species of birds and animals. Unlike some of its “cousins” in this genus, the leaves of this shrub are deciduous.
