What plant is that?

The mystery plant for April is a perennial with very colorful flowers which conspicuously standout from all of its neighbors. It grows from 6-20” tall and has 4-petaled rose-lavender flowers with 8 yellow stamens.  Its leaves are opposite and toothed, although occasionally, but rarely, they may be alternate.  The showy blossoms of this plant may be seen from late June to early September.  Look for this beauty in wet or soggy habitats.  Once seen it is never forgotten.

It’s. . .
