The flowers of this perennial brighten the salt marshes of Rhode Island from mid-August to October. The blue or white flowers are ½ to 1 “ wide and the zig-zag stems which often recline on the ground with tips ascending have alternate, narrow and fleshy leaves. The plant can usually be found growing at or below the high tide line among various species of salt marsh grasses.
